The Shelly Company is divided into four divisions. The Southern, Northwest and Northeast Divisions supply aggregates, asphalt and paving services throughout their geographic areas. The Ready Mix Division is a supplier of concrete and operates locally as Smith Concrete, Medina Supply and All Ohio Ready Mix.
The Shelly Company currently has a need for a Staff Accountant for the Southern Division at the Thornville, Ohio location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Shelly Company Southern Division Assistant Controller, the criteria for this position includes but is not limited to the following:
- Basic understanding of job costing and reconciliations.
- Complete necessary journal entries as required.
- Meet information requirements, complete ad hoc projects and complete financial analyses and reconciliation of accounts.
- Monitor financial statements/balance sheet monthly and ensure all balances are appropriately analyzed and correctly stated.
- Monitor all accounting functions for the Southern Division to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Ensure appropriate internal control standards are maintained and or improved throughout the Southern Division.
- Meet information requests of both external and internal auditors.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and supervisors with other duties as required.
- Must maintain a professional and courteous attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
- Limited travel and the ability to work away from home as required.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Strict adherence to The Shelly Company Manual of Safety Practices Procedures.
- Strict adherence to The Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the book of company policies.
- Strict adherence to Sarbanes-Oxley and GAAP rules.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations, using some combination of skills and abilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Four year degree required or 2-5 years of related experience and/or training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
The ability to read and understand various documents such as accounting guidelines, policy and procedure manuals, and safety rules. Strong written and verbal communication skills a must. The ability to hold and conduct meetings.
REASONING ABILITY:
Excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to communicate problems clearly and concisely by collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
TECHNICAL:
The ability to use computers with a proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Viewpoint experience a plus.
