Staff Accountant Job in Washington 20036, District Of Columbia Us

Small non profit located in NW, DC is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their team.  This is a contract to hire opportunity being offered at 35k-40k.

 

 

Responsibilties 

1.      Process Cash Receipts

·         Review Check Log prepared by the Receptionist and deposit the checks;

·         Enter the receipts into the Access database for the Senior Accountant to download into the general ledger, including correct account information; and   

·         Scan and post the Cash Receipts Journal on the shared file drive so other departments may access the information.

 

2.      Accounts Payables Functions

·         Review Invoices for:

o   An invoice or check request;

o   Supporting documentation;

o   Approving Signatures; and

o   W-9 for all vendors to receive a 1099 at year’s end.

·         Recalculate invoice amount;

·         Code invoice with proper general ledger department, project, and natural account codes;

·         Compare actual invoice expense with contract and make inquiries of the variances; and

·         Submit entered batch with batch report for approval.

 

3.      Timesheet Management

·         Collect, track, and file timesheets for the current period;

·         Enter timesheet information into the salary allocation spreadsheet; and

·         Create a new timesheet as an Excel worksheet each quarter, adjusting for completed and new projects.

 

4.      Assists with the year-end financial audit.

 

5.      Maintains required records, reports and files in an organized manner.

·         Account Payables files

·         Journal Entry files

·         Investment files

·         W-9 files

 

6.      Performs other related duties as directed.

 

     Minimum Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate w              1. Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting
  2.     One to three (1-3) years of non-profit or CPA firm accounting experience.

3.      Experience using Great Plains accounting software.

4.      Excellent computer skill.

5.      Experience with Microsoft Office especially Access and Excel.

6.      Strong organizational skills with problem-solving approach and ability to conduct multiple tasks.

7.      Strong attention to detail and precise data.

8.      Excellent written and oral communication skills.

9.      High degree of initiative, resourcefulness, sound judgment, and discretion.

10.  Ability to work within tight deadlines.

11.  Ability to work with minimal supervision.
