Work independently and provides expertise and support for the Legal Department in the area of estates, trusts, wills, real estate, property contracts, and other contracts. Manage and supervise staff in large volume of trust and estate work, make court appearances as may be appropriate, and help supervise outside counsel in probate administration and litigation, such as will contests, as well as oversight of trust and estate distributions. Assist as assigned in meeting ABA requirements for supervision of law student interns working within the Legal Department. Advise and consult concerning the legal processes necessary to affect the rights, privileges and obligations of the organization including proposed legislation that might affect the organization. Gather evidence and information for management decision making through the preparation examination and/or review of various legal instruments and documents, including but not limited to wills, trusts, real estate conveyancing documentation, and governmental forms. Represent the organization before administrative agencies of the federal and various state governments. Required Experience: Five years of successful and increasingly responsible experience in the practice of law in areas such estates, trusts, wills, real estate, property contracts, and other contracts. Experience in a corporate trust department or a law firm advising corporate trust departments is preferred. Legal understanding and experience with testamentary instruments, probate administration, estate appraisements, will contests, and trust and estate law. Legal understanding and experience in the following areas of the law: nonprofit, corporate, contracts, insurance, real property; and willingness to learn and work within the framework of ecclesiastical rules, policies and procedures. Must be able to comprehend and carry out complex legal assignments or to clearly and concisely ask for clarification until the assignment is understood. Excellent analytical, multi-tasking, organizational skills, and ability to create a positive work environment with all Territorial Headquarters and field staff, and outside contacts, including outside counsel, in the context of an estate management practice; willingness to help supervise law student interns. Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to initiate routine and complex legal correspondence, giving adequate attention to detail and having a fundamental understanding of, and ability to properly use, technical legal terminology and concepts; highly proficient in the use of proper grammar, accurate spelling, and keyboarding proficiency.
