The Staff Engineer, Product Development will characterize new RD products on Vistakon's pilot scale prototyping resources, and develop appropriate specifications that define new products. Provides technical competency for product development engineering, and meets development goals within time constraints. Takes ownership in executing product development strategies, utilizing standardized tools and methodologies, and prioritizing of business objectives.

Hands-on product development and process engineering in Pilot Plant. Acts as subject matter expert for pilot scale process, determining improvement opportunities for new products. Authors development protocols, strong design of experiments and statistical analysis. Capable of incorporating Quality by Design concepts into product development strategy. Presents oral and written reports to communicate progress.

Determines resource needs to execute development strategies for new products to ensure appropriate characterization and specifications. Develops strong partnerships with the Product Development Leads, works closely with RD Product Platform project managers, Engineering Subject Matter Experts, and Material Leads to effectively implement strategies. Adheres to environmental/safety policy and procedures and supports department safety objectives.

The Staff Engineer, Product Development will design, execute and analyze product development activities on RD pilot lines and prototyping laboratories for new RD products. Provides technical support to regulatory submissions and product transfers to New Product Introduction group. Writes technical reports to capture knowledge generated. Works within departmental and project budgets. Ensures compliance and quality of new products. Machine and Human Safety. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Bachelors Degree in technical field - Engineering/Material/Natural/Physical Science or equivalent is required. An Advanced degree is preferred. A minimum of 7 years experience with BS degree or 5+ years with MS degree or 3+ years with a PhD is required. Regulated medical device or pharmaceutical industry is required. Experience with statistical design and analysis of experiments are required. Experience with new material development and evaluation, novel characterization methodologies, and contact lens fabrication protocols are preferred. Working knowledge of polymer chemistry is preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are required. The travel requirement for this position is up to 10%.
