The Oncology Staff Pharmacist will provide Pharmacy Services to acute oncology patients of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. Function as a clinical resource for physicians, nurses and patients. Act as a liaison for the Department of Pharmacy and other departments of the medical center.
The Oncology Staff Pharmacist provides consultative services to physicians and nurses in hematology and oncology patient care units, as well as to pharmacy and other healthcare personnel. Because of the complexity of the medications used, the various experimental protocols being investigated and the high cost of these drugs, an Oncology Pharmacist can help in the proper utilization of cancer chemotherapy and management of complications secondary to therapy. An Oncology Pharmacist actively participates in the drug management of patients. The ages of patients this position will most frequently be in contact with are young to older adults.
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree Current California State Pharmacist license is required. Successful completion of an accredited clinical pharmacy residency (required), with an emphasis on oncology. Successful completion of a fellowship in oncology pharmacy (preferred). Prior experience in oncology pharmacy practice. Proven clinical skills, especially in the area of oncology. Demonstrated verbal and written communicative skills. Ability to effectively interact with other health team members. Ability to organize and work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to supervise and set guidelines and procedures. Enthusiasm in the field of oncology.
