Staff UNIX Systems Administrator Job in San Diego 92101, California US
Overall, the position of Staff Unix Systems Administrator is expected to:
- Design, install, configure, and maintain highly reliable 24x7x365 production servers, including (but not limited to) www, ftp, source management, and team productivity
- Provide leadership, make recommendations, and collaborate with software developers, system and network administrators, and other support staff
- Supervise the work of more junior team members, mentoring as needed
- Monitor important technology innovations and work to incorporate technology that improves overall services delivered
- Manage vendor relationships to enable efficient and cost-effective purchase plans and decisions for necessary goods and services
- Contribute to annual budget and internal IT roadmap planning by having a wide knowledge of vendor products, roadmaps and industry trends to match emerging technologies to expected new technology and plan for its purchase and integration
- Travel occasionally as needed to support remote offices or attend training and conferences
- Strong experience with teamwork in Internet-related server operation groups; expert technical-level verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to participate in process definition for change management and problem resolution to support 7x24 systems operations
- Must have computer science knowledge adequate to create new complex system concepts and communicate them to technical teams; senior level Unix/Linux systems administration and scripting knowledge; previous experience as a Unix administrator for 7x24 server-based systems; intermediate MS Office skills; advanced level Internet and related networking expertise; and in-depth understanding of PlayStation game development or software development practices
- Must be able to create and maintain project plans in collaboration with technical teams and management. Must be able to effectively communicate project status regularly to participants, stakeholders, and management
- Should have industry background sufficient to understand when changing technical or business practices may impact current or planned solutions
Required Experience / Education:
- At least 6 years experience as a UNIX Systems Administrator or equivalent
- At least 1 year of post highschool education or training
Preferred Experience / Education:
- At least 10 years experience as a UNIX Systems Administrator or equivalent
- A Bachelor's degree from a four-year university (i.e., BA, BS) or equivalent
