Storage Development Engineer Director - Server Storage - 12000A4J This position is for a Storage Development Engineer Director in our Server Storage product development team. The successful candidate will be a bright, resourceful manager possessing the ability to work in all aspects of systems engineering, planning, operations, and management. The candidate must be a team player who is able to manage and lead all aspects of engineering and product development. This manager must work intimately with the various functional Managers and Directors to ensure rigor and quality in all deliverables; provide Executive level communication; as well as influence current and future product development. Candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter who can work well independently and who can interface well with cross-functionally and cross-site. Responsibilities include the following: Manage products through Deployment Phases and successfully transition products into Sustaining Engineering teams Actively manage and drive product development as defined in the marketing requirements, quality goals, cost reduction opportunities, continuity of supply, feature additions, factory requirements, stop ships and customer escalations for supported platforms Drive product issues to closure with true root cause and a strong sense of urgency and ownership Develop plans to meet key metrics and drive the team to successfully meet them Partner and work across organizations and sites to ensure success in the business Communicate cross-functionally, externally, and to all levels of upper management the status of all relevant management information Exert influence cross-functionally to meet goals and support the team Interaction with extended teams locally and at other Dell Development centers worldwide Manage suppliers to meet technical deliverables, cost targets and quality goals Management of a team from 5 to 15 diverse engineers Developing the team?s resource plan, aggressively staffing the team with the appropriate talent and developing the team members Ensure the team has the appropriate systems and tools (hardware and software) to meet the teams deliverables Holding staff meetings and 1-1?s with direct reports Responsible for annual performance plans, ongoing performance feedback, annual performance appraisals and quarterly team-building events Forecast and manage department budget Qualifications Independent, hard-working, focused, and organized At least 10+ years? experience in Engineering, Operations, and/or Development BS or MS in EE/CE/CS is required Strong ability to motivate and achieve results through others Solid grasp of Engineering operations and deliverables Strong presentation, problem solving and analytical skills Strong leadership, interpersonal, written/verbal communication, presentation skills Flexibility to work on multiple project streams simultaneously Ability to: identify potential product weakness; provide design guidance/recommendations for improvements to subsequent redesigns; drive cross-functional development efforts Solid working knowledge of Enterprise Storage and Server products Experience with RAID solutions in multiple implementations: embedded, PCI adapter, external controller is desired Understanding of RAID concepts: striping, caching, parity, failure, recovery, redundancy, performance, IOP hardware acceleration Understanding of firmware; device drivers; server and storage management strategies; and application in an enterprise environment and ability to drive a technical development team Understanding of related technologies, suppliers and competitive offerings Dell is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
