Storage Development Engineer I - 120007QR This position is a RAID Development Engineer; for RAID, SATA and SAS products. The SAS/SATA/RAID team is closely tied to most of the development organizations, including the platforms, OS teams, systems management, hard drives, and storage enclosures. The position provides the opportunity for setting the technical and design direction for a storage subsystem, and responsibility for its implementation into the larger server and storage product lines. This includes feature definition, supplier selection, development process execution and improvement, integration testing, fault isolation and resolution, manufacturing release, and resolution of design issues found in the field. The ideal candidate should have design and development experience with RAID solutions in multiple implementations: embedded, PCI adapter, external controller. The RAID engineer is responsible for providing technical contribution to the specification; to development of storage solutions; and for debug of interactions through the RAID firmware and up to the OS code stacks. Duties include all activities necessary to take a design from concept to production including, architecture definition, schematics, debug, test, issue resolution and factory ramp support. Qualifications Design and development experience with RAID solutions in multiple implementations: embedded, PCI adapter, external controller. Solid working knowledge of key RAID concepts: striping, caching, parity, failure recovery, redundancy, performance, IOP hardware acceleration. Ability to: identify potential product weakness; provide design guidance/recommendations for improvements to subsequent redesigns; work in cross-functional development efforts. Solution level understanding of firmware; device drivers; server and storage management strategies; and application in an enterprise environment and ability to drive technical issues to root cause. Development level experience in analog and digital circuit theory and principles along with strong understanding of PC architecture and the major data transfer mechanisms such as PCI and memory buses. Working knowledge of PCI, SATA, SAS, and FC protocols. Demonstrated ability to work under and deliver to date-driven schedules; write and analyze requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and documentation.
