Technical Specialist in the EMC Symmetrix space - Promote ideas, strategy and awareness of this technology space within the UBS Storage community, both in one on one discussions and through presentation forums such as the Technical Working Group.
Be the SME in the field and in particular understand how individual components interact and combine to develop a product.
Drive the certification of all Symmetrix related technologies and drive the adoption of new features and strategies in this space.
Be on top of all production issues/escalations related to this technology. Drive solutions to these with other relevant teams.
Understand in-depth and communicate the alternative solutions in the product space.
Requirements
Essential Skills
Ability to provide detailed and high quality documentation within a structured qualification process
Clear and confident communicator with the ability to work to often demanding deadlines
Expert level understanding of the principles of block storage presentation
Expert level understanding of Symmetrix product including:
- Configuration and performance tuning (preferably EMC `SPEED` level of experience)
- Virtual Provisioning
- Timefinder product set
- Open Replicator product set
- SRDF product set
- Management toolset
Strong understanding of Clariion product and toolset
Strong understanding of fibre channel fabric design, implementation and management principles and in particular how it is applied through Cisco MDS product line
Strong understanding of some of the following OS and in particular their storage stack (muiltipathing, volume management etc) implementations: Solaris, RHEL Linux, Window
Strong understanding of the Storage industry and in particular new product concepts (for example off array caching) and directions
Desirable Skills
Perl
Understanding of the broader scope of Storage disciplines including NAS, Ethernet Networks and Backups
