506 Hayes Street is a Timbuk2 cathedral. It’s Timbuk2’s flagship store and offers customers the unique experience of customizing bags. Customers travel from around the world for the rare opportunity of customizing a TImbuk2 bagin-the-flesh. All custom Timbuk2 bags are manufactured in Timbuk2’s San Francisco factory a mile away from the retail store and are delivered to the customer within 48 hours.
The Store Manager is a bold leader who balances his/her time between the
corporate office, where they develop merchandising and marketing
strategies, and the retail store, where they manage the sales floor,
engage with customers and show their team how it’s done. They are also
charged with the awesome task of launching new Timbuk2 stores in the US.
The Store Manager is a creative person with acute operational focus and a deep, undying love of retail. They live and breathe the Timbuk2 brand and infect customers with Timbuk2’s spirit and energy. Timbuk2 is not a cult (phew!), it’s an obsessive, different-than-the-rest family.
What you’ll be doing in this role:
Sales Generation Budget Management
- Develop and execute sales strategies in order to hit sales goals
- Focus on increasing conversion
- Analyze and identify business trends, develop and execute action plans to maximize sales, communicate best sellers and missed opportunities and manage/solve inventory problems
- Ensure the sales floor is adequately covered
Marketing
- Manage a store marketing budget for local marketing and event initiatives to increase awareness and drive traffic to the store
- Project manage the retail store’s marketing initiatives by collaborating with various departments within Timbuk2 to execute
Visual Merchandising
- Work with the Timbuk2 brand guidelines to best communicate the various product stories according to the marketing calendar and seasonal product forecast
- Continually refine the merchandise plan-o-gram and flow based on business trends and strategies
- Take pride in maintaining Timbuk2's visual merchandising standards are met (i.e. cleanliness, clarity, funk)
Operations
- Monitor and control payroll and other expenses
- Effectively manage inventory by forecasting, managing inventory flow, and managing in season receipts
- Ensure all cash handling and loss prevention policies and procedures are enforced
- Ensure all paperwork is completed promptly with attention to detail
- Maintain procedures for receiving stock shipments, transfers and handling defective merchandise
Human Resources:
- Recruit, interview and hire out-of-this-world team members
- Minimize turnover by developing a well rounded, satisfied team
- Model appropriate sales behaviors and train team on daily operations, product knowledge and sales techniques
- Consistently identify and document team member performance
Customer Service
- Do whatever it takes to meet the customer's needs
- Communicate consumer needs and issues to various teams at Timbuk2 to feed awesome product development
- Work with Customer Service Manager to learn from one another and establish best practices
What you’ll need to rock this role:
- College degree or equivalent level of experience
- 3 to 5 years previous retail experience including at least 1 year store manager experience
- Experience managing all operational, merchandising, sales and stock activities for a specialty soft goods store with annual sales greater than $1M
- Experience with multiple stores of the same chain and setting up new stores a plus.
- Strong Excel skills and huge comfort with numbers, business analysis and inventory forecasting
- Attention to detail and ability to follow-through without a kick in the pants
- Proven ability to train others
- Positive track record leading a team and responding positively to change, ambiguity and adversity
- Comfort and experience diagnosing, addressing and resolving interpersonal situations
- Recruit, train, generate sales and perform all phases of operations and merchandising
- Understand, develop, monitor and amend budgets, sales, hours goals and allocations
- Develop schedules and systems to effectively manage store operations
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines concurrently. Proven ability to persevere when confronted by obstacles
- Ability to lift and carry 15 pounds
- Empathy for the customer. They are right, even when they’re wrong!
- Self-starter; be your own master!
- High tolerance for stress mixed with a strong sense of urgency and a healthy dose of detail obsession
- Love of dogs and/or willingness to hang out with them in the office
