GENERAL PURPOSE: The Financial Analyst will provide critical financial and strategic analysis support to the Stores teams at Ross and dd's Discounts. The Financial Analyst will report to the Manager of Store Ops Finance and will interact with the Director of Strategic Analysis and Payroll as well as the Vice President and Controller of Store Operations Finance. The Financial Analyst will work with the Manager to analyze store performance and work the Stores Organization to identify reasons for under/over performance as well as support the annual and monthly payroll budgeting processes. The Financial Analyst will also serve as a backup for key payroll and scheduling functions in the absence of the Payroll Analyst. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Complete strategic analysis on store performance and store labor expense to identify trends or areas of opportunity - Establish and supervise standardized store performance tracking and reporting mechanisms to identify issues or trends in store performance - Design and conduct financial and operational analysis to understand drivers of performance, diagnose causes of weak performance and identify revenue and profit improvement opportunities - examples include store sales, store customer service metrics, gross margin and contribution analysis; payroll allocation and payroll volume driver accuracy improvement analysis; capital spending ROI analysis - Conduct root cause analyses on specific opportunities identified - Conduct additional store ad-hoc analyses as requested - Understand cost drivers for key store labor activities and identify opportunities to reduce costs. Work with Labor Methods and Store Initiatives team and field representatives to execute projects to capture cost savings - Develop compelling materials to communicate results of analysis, key insights to recommendations mid and "C" level executives within the company Facilitate and prepare annual budgets, monthly budgets and 5-year plans for Store payroll - Participate in the 5-year and annual payroll budgeting processes by understanding business priorities and drivers of activities and costs and using that information to build budget models that accurately predict levels and timing of costs - Forecast store specific monthly sales and payroll plans based on forecasted volume drivers, store-specific profiles, Ross and dd's labor standards and current budgets. Communicate plans to stores. In the future, participate in the effort to move from a monthly planning process to a weekly planning process - Accurately forecast volume drivers by store for the annual budgeting plans and the monthly payroll plan (e.g., store sales, store receipts, transactions, inventory, markdowns etc.) This entails coordination with NYBO, Transportation and Distribution Centers - Ensure monthly payroll plans align with existing budgets. Provide backup support for daily, weekly and monthly payroll processes as needed in the absence of the team members - Short term area of focus will be learning to backup daily payroll status reporting and monthly payroll allocation process (understand all of the inputs and steps required to complete the allocation including running PlanStaff model and loading payroll plans into DART) - Medium to long term focus will be weekly Executive Reporting, monthly close process and bi-monthly reconciliation processes of Store payroll plan system (DART) and the Peoplesoft Payroll / General Ledger systems COMPETENCIES: - Analysis and Judgment - Communication - Business Acumen - Results Orientation - Planning and Organizing - Teamwork - People Management - Problem Solving QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED: - Bachelor's degree required with demonstrated superior college performance (preferably in an analytical field) - Strong candidates will have a minimum of 2 years post college experience, preferably with a top-tier consulting firm or retailer - Outstanding analytical ability - must have a data driven approach to solving problems.
