Strategy Manager recruitment

Imerys is the world leader in mineral-based speciality solutions for industry.  Our Performance Filtration Minerals Business Group is seeking a talented Strategy Manager who will be based in our San Jose, CA office.

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE

Lead the Imerys North American external growth strategy (acquisition and greenfield) for the Performance and Filtration Business Group (“PFMNA”).

JOB SCOPE / DIMENSIONS

PFMNA has multiple mining and processing operations across North America.  Its two divisions manufacture and sell several functional minerals (diatomite, perlite, talc, mica, kaolin) for diverse industries (polymers, food and beverage, paints, automotive, pharmaceutical and personal care).  A significant portion of its sales are exported outside the region to Europe, South America and Asia. Key assets are located in the United States (CA, MT), Mexico and Canada (QC).

External growth is a key part of PFMNA’s strategy to seize opportunities to expand its product portfolio in core or adjacent markets.  Targeted companies would typically be either family-owned, subsidiaries of a larger group or owned by private-equity.

Travel is estimated at 30% Domestic and 20% International.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the implementation of external growth strategic initiatives in North America:

 - Identify acquisition opportunities.

 - Develop relationships with target companies’ owners and their influencers, and determine best acquisition / partnership strategy.

 - Lead the process of getting the necessary internal approvals and support.  Manage due diligence and negotiations with acquisition targets.

- Build business plan and analyze returns.  As appropriate, lead integration of acquired companies.

Project management responsibility for greenfield developments:

 - Identify locations and coordinate with process engineers for the design.

 - Build business plan and analyze returns.

 - Lead the process of getting the necessary internal approvals and support.

 - As appropriate, lead implementation and execution of the investments.

Coordinate, under the supervision of the VPGM, the preparation and updates of the strategic development plan for Imerys for the Performance and Filtration Business group in North America.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

Master’s degree in Finance or related field, with a technical acumen and interest.

Experience:

3 to 5+ years of experience in elaboration and implementation of business strategies is essential.  Typical profile could be experience in investment banking / private equity or strategic consulting.

Experience working for/with industrial companies strongly preferred.

Language:

Fluency in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills is essential.

Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable, given locales of growth prospects.

Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics:

Experience and track record in managing MA transaction processes

Strong financial background (modeling, etc.)

Entrepreneurial character with inspirational team leading skills

Negotiation skills, experience in deal making

Creative thinking in terms of projects, solutions to issues and negotiation

Ability to multi-task and work independently, with a strong drive

Experience working with remote, multi-national teams preferred
