Structural Engineering Intern

Primary Job Responsibilities Internship positions at Jacobs provide college students an opportunity to gain real-world experience in specific area of study. Working in a fast-paced, professional setting provides interns with invaluable experiences applying the knowledge and skills learned through education in a business environment while working alongside, and in support of, a group of world-class professionals in your chosen field of study. Perform routine aspects of building structures design under the direct guidance of a Lead Engineer and/or Designer (Engineering, Structural Details, Analysis, and Design). May use computer assisted engineering software and equipment to perform engineering tasks. Collect and prepare data for evaluation. Provide support to Engineering staff members as needed. Training and Experience Candidate must be currently enrolled in or graduated from either a Structural or Civil Engineering accredited program. Possess strong analytical, conceptual, communication (both written and verbal), and organizational skills. Ability to effectively interface at all levels of personnel and management. Ability to work and thrive in a team environment. Strong problem solving skills. Ability to self motivate and work productively both with and without supervision. Working knowledge of Word and Excel, as well as AutoCAD ability is preferred. EIT Certification is preferred but not required. Other Essential Functions Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
