Student/Intern

Student/Intern - Intelligent Information Integration

Job description ______________ We currently have internship opportunities available in the Intelligent Information Integration group at IBM Research-Almaden. We are looking for highly qualified Ph.D. students interested in exploring challenges that arise in large-scale unstructured entity integration. We are building a scalable system that enables easy and scalable integration of unstructured and semi-structured information present across multiple data sources. The primary goal of this system is to enable transformation of the data from a document or record-view of the world to an entity-centric view, where multiple facts about the same real-world entity are merged into one object, with, ideally, clean and complete attributes. The main technology challenges that arise in this context are (a) unstructured information extraction (e.g., extraction of various facts from the multitude of text or html documents), and (b) entity resolution and integration (resolving and merging references to the same real-world entity and creating correct relationships among the resulting objects). The summer internship would involve conducting research in topics such as (i) defining high-level abstractions and tooling for the new flavor of entity integration flow over unstructured data sources, (ii) designing and implementing algorithms for the different components (data cleansing, entity resolution, schema mapping and data fusion) and (iii) applying and extending the resulting system to multiple domains. Students are employees hired for a pre-professional/professional assignment while enrolled at a university/educational institution or just after completion of qualification and work for IBM as a required part of their academic program or work during vacation, breaks, and/or holiday periods or as a placement year, for example, co-ops and interns. Required Bachelor's Degree English: Basic knowledge Preferred Master's Degree in Information Technology At least 1 year experience in Java English : Intermediate IBM is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
