The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all cost allocations within the Company's various profitability reporting systems. The cost allocation framework supports various business needs including profitability reporting for business units, clients, products and accounts. This information is used to drive or inform management accountability, planning, pricing, and analysis.
Among other responsibilities, the Cost Accounting Manager will be responsible for the following:
- Design and conduct activity based costing studies
- Serve as business owner for the implementation of a new ABC costing system and cost allocations engine
- Provide thought leadership on the appropriate and effective usage of cost information to improve performance
- Monitor and validate the monthly billing and charge backs processes performed in the various management reporting systems across the bank.
- Act as a the subject matter expert for cost on various project teams
- Manage a department of experienced cost accountants and analysts
- Remain knowledgeable about industry standards and best in class cost allocation methodologies and usage; incorporating into SunTrust processes
- Provide end user support for cost information; facilitating the effective usage/interpretation of cost allocations and unit cost data across a variety of uses
- Determine the appropriate costing techniques that are necessary to drive business decisions and facilitate buyer/seller dialogue and effective cost management
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of experience in the financial industry
- At least 4 years of recent experience in cost accounting at a senior level within a financial services environment
- At least 3 years of recent experience directly managing a staff of degreed accountants.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of recent cost accounting experience in a top 20 commercial bank or financial institution
- 5+ years of recent experience managing a staff of degreed accountants
