This exciting role sits within our Contractor Management team at our Port Hedland Dampier Salt Limited (DSL) Operations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this pivotal role will see you as the site contact for contractor management services, project management and technical support to the Port Hedland operations. You will be responsible for the strategic planning and implementation of five year maintenance strategies, capital budgets and all aspects of contractor safety, health and environment.
 
You will be interacting closely with the Perth based engineering team and site operations, maintenance, procurement, production and process for scoping, development and execution of projects. Your success will be contingent upon your ability to engage, motivate and inspire contractors to adopt the Rio Tinto culture and values.
 
To be successful in this challenging role you must possess the following attributes:

  • Mechanical Trade Certificate and or Electrical trade's certificate.
  • Previous experience in a leadership position with a focus on contractor/third party and or maintenance teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate contractors and to live the values of safety, productivity and continuous improvement.
  • Previous experience in Project management with strong organisational, planning and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to build and retain strong relationships with internal and external parties.
  • WA C Class Drivers license or interstate equivalent.
  • Flexible with a can-do attitude.

Desirable:

  • Progress towards, or achievement of, a qualification in frontline management.
  • Exposure to SAP, Microsoft Project, Power-point.
  • Ability to lead change with a continuous improvement focus.
  • Awareness of Mines Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
  • Previous experience in the Mining and or heavy resource industry.

The incumbent requires a strong technical knowledge and understanding of the plant processes, equipment, facilities and opportunities that are affected by project initiatives.  The same level of knowledge is also required for advocating new process, equipment and facilities.
 
The incumbent must have a strong working knowledge of the processes and regulatory agencies that govern the site.  These controls affect business decisions and designs that are incorporated into the financial and social planning for all projects.
