John Crane, a worldwide technology leader in the Mechanical Seals and Systems industry, seeks an outstanding Supervising Mechanical Engineer IV for our John Crane-Lemco, Tulsa, OK, location.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under general supervision, the supervisor plans, conducts and develops work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Estimates manpower needs and schedules work to meet completion dates; coordinates and supervises up to 10 employees and supervises an operation of the engineering function; reviews progress and evaluates results. Troubleshoots by investigating problems related to product performance or production difficulties.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Approve new product design ideas testing and if successful, incorporates into seal design.
  • Devise new approaches to problems encountered in assignments.
  • Approve overall seal and component part design and materials, proposals, layouts, installation, assembly and detail drawing.
  • Negotiate with customers and sales personnel regarding material changes or modifications of customer equipment and seal or auxiliary items.
  • Establish new guidelines and routines based on engineering standards to assure operation efficiency.
  • Communicate orally and in writing with customers, sales and company personnel and vendors providing counseling, advice and technical assistance.
  • Meet with customers in plant or at customer's site to discuss, analyze and resolve field problems.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations to management and assist in developing department practices and policies.
  • Responsible for special projects and programs.
  • Approve shipment of purchased items from supplier with acceptable deviation. Plan, schedule and coordinate assignments and work loads.
  • Forecast requirements and lead time to meet the objectives of the engineering function.
  • Liaison between various functions and departments.

  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTRY:
    Requires a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably BSME, or equivalent with working knowledge of personal computing and one year computer-assisted equipment experience and six or more years work experience as a Mechanical Engineer to include mechanical engineering and manufacturing methods to obtain sufficient knowledge and background to assume responsibilities involved.
