The Compliance Supervisor represents the Global Investment Adviser Compliance (GIAC) department and serves as the primary point of contact with investment management as well as internal and external customers. The Supervisor ensures that all funds and accounts comply with their respective investment guidelines, regulatory requirements and internal controls. In addition, the Compliance Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of 3 Compliance Analysts within the Global Investment Adviser Compliance department. The team monitors monitors investment portfolios testing for compliance with investment restrictions derived from fund disclosure, regulatory and contractual requirements. The Compliance Supervisor actively participates in and leads efforts to expand or strengthen the department's capabilities in a continuous effort to maintain consistent processes to mitigate risk for the firm.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Oversee, develop, and provide coaching to direct reports responsible for daily compliance of portfolios covering a wide array of investment strategies.
- Ensure team performance meets the required level of quality and accuracy and all tasks are completed within the requested timeframes.
- Independently review, interpret, and identify investment restrictions stemming from fund disclosure, client agreements and regulations.
- Identify, recommend, and code compliance restrictions in the automated compliance monitoring system (Charles River) to prevent potential compliance breaches and reduce the risk of error.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvements to processes and controls, present practical solutions and assist in the implementation of solutions.
- Appropriately document analysis and testing results while escalating issues as necessary.
- Identify, escalate and communicate issues that present risk. Propose risk-reduction solutions.
- Oversee testing of investment advisor activity to identify potential regulatory and/or policy violations.
- Participate in cross-functional efforts with portfolio management, trading and technology in an efforts to strengthen controls and create efficiencies.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with various business representatives.
- Participate and lead educational initiatives designed to inform team about relevant legislations, new procedures and practices.
Ideal candidates will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with a mutual fund complex or investment advisory firm.
- At least 3 years of experience within a compliance department.
- In depth understanding and strong working knowledge of applicable SEC rules and regulations impacting domestic Investment Advisers (Securities Act of 1933 1934, Investment Company Act of 1940 and Investment Advisers Act of 1940).
- Understanding and working knowledge of applicable rules and regulations of international investment advisers located in Canada, Europe and Asia.
- Experience with an automated portfolio compliance monitoring system is required. Familiarity with Charles River preferred.
- Ability to supervise and develop a multi-site team of Portfolio Compliance Analysts.
