Job Description

 

Job Title:              Production Supervisor             

Reports To:               Applicable Production Unit Managers

Department:               Textiles

FLSA Status:               Exempt

 

Summary:

Responsible for the safe manufacturing of defect free products on time to achieve total customer satisfaction and continuous improvement of quality, reliability and productivity by supervising personnel and promoting employee dedication to excellence.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Provides effective leadership to hourly production team to motivate, mentors and direct production activities.

 

Responsible for maintaining good housekeeping/5S practices; effectively identifying bottlenecks, the required corrective actions, and driving issues to resolution; effectively communicating goals and objectives to workforce and achieving financial targets established in AOP.

 

Responsible for meeting quality targets, building internal/external customer/supplier relationships and effectively utilizing diagnostic quality tools for improving the cost of quality.

 

Position is responsible for daily production reporting, scheduling, and prioritizing of production activities.

 

Maintains thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment for area and ensures that the production process is followed to TS-16949 work instructions without deviation, unless proper approval is obtained from Business Unit Manager or Quality Personnel.

 

Completes production plan by establishing accountability and priorities; scheduling activities and employees; ensuring employees are trained and certified to job requirements and training documentation is maintained according to the established procedure.

 

Issues written and oral instructions.

 

Assigns duties and examines work for exactness, quality, and conformance to policies and procedures.

 

Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.

 

Promotes harmony among workers and the strategic alliance between the Company and the Union, and resolves grievances.

 

Accurately and effectively presents facts in grievance hearings and investigations.

 

Ensures consistently and accurate application of Work Rules and organizational policies.

Consistently demonstrates prompt, regular and reliable attendance.

 

Must be able to work an excess of eight hours per day or forty hours per week on any shift as assigned or needed to meet production requirements, housekeeping requirements or training/meeting needs.  Must be able to work week-ends as needed.

 

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

 

Demonstrates effective working relations with others in situations involving cooperation, respective communication and successful outcomes.

Performs job functions according to appropriate TS-16949 work instructions.

 

Conforms to the Environmental Management System procedures and requirements and follows the Health, Safety and Environmental policies.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises hourly production employees in the Textiles Product Units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training and certifying employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education:

Minimum - High school diploma or GED

 

Preferred - Associate or Bachelors degree

 

Experience:

Minimum – 1-2 years of previous experience in a high volume manufacturing environment.

 

Preferred - 3 to 5 years of related experience in Tier 1 or OEM automotive manufacturing. Previous experience with Toyota Production System disciplines and TS-16949.  Previous supervisory experience in a union environment.

 

Computer Skills:

Minimum - Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel proficiency.  Electronic mail.

 

Preferred – Previous experience with QMIS, QAD, and MAN-IT.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

None required at this time.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively speak before groups of customers, managers, or employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

Reasoning Skills:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Knowledge of quality diagnostics tools, TS-16949 systems, implementation and working knowledge of problem solving methods.

Personal protection is required; safety glasses, hearing protection, and safety shoes must be worn when entering the manufacturing areas.  Other PPE may be required.
