Position Description
The Supervisor, Claims Examniner, reporting to the Claims Manager, provides leadership to the members of the Claims team, focusing on the achievement of superior claims service through timely, accurate, fair and respectful claim settlements. Ensures all files are handled promptly and efficiently through utilizing strong communication and analytical skills. Maintains service at all times through daily interaction both internally and externally while consistently monitoring and contributing to the development of direct reports.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Ensures service levels are maintained by organizing and monitoring workflow and vacation schedules, ensuring accountability and setting priorities to ensure optimal performance.
- Assists in the development of benchmarks within the department to ensure claims best practices are maintained.
- Ensures that Branch and Company privacy controls are followed.
- Assist in the development of training seminars, conduct department meetings and provide specific training to the claims staff.
- Act as a leader for a designated work unit, modeling and supporting through coaching the corporate core values; communicating company guidelines, practices and procedures and ensuring compliance.
- Generates and supports an energetic, positive and consistent corporate culture.
- Establishes goals and monitors the development of claims staff, tailoring coaching and leadership based on employee needs; and develops individual capabilities or deals with skill deficiencies.
- Conducts ands contributes to employee’s performance management; ensuring regular feedback is provided on quality of claims handling and overall performance.
- Conducts and contributes to employee salary review process.
- Interpret policy wordings to provide coverage opinions for internal and external clients
- Maintain internal and external client relationships
- Facilitates ongoing feedback and communication within the department and acts as a change agent to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with our brokers and insureds, including handling of complaints.
- Keeps apprised of all current changes and trends regarding claims related issues, which includes case law, legislation, Insurance Act, Traffic Safety Act, etc.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the SPF1, Standard Automobile Policy.
- Has excellent understanding of the IBC Claims Agreement and ability to interpret and apply the Intercompany Settlement Chart.
- Provide feedback and support to the Claims Manager as required.
Qualifications:
- Degree/Diploma/Certificate at an accredited post secondary institute
- CIP designation
- Valid Alberta Drivers License
- 5+ years experience as a property adjuster
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products and Lotus Notes
- Strong teamwork skills and the ability to lead and manage a team
- Energetic and self-directed, with effective time management skills
- Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational skills, showing attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
