SUMMARY: Contribute to reduction of outside legal expenses and to efficiently manage support staff and paralegals in the Professional EO Claim Unit. Manages a group of support staff and paralegals dedicated to the Unit to develop, implement and oversee efficient and consistent intake and setup procedures for new claims received by the Unit. Maintains consistent and efficient use of administrative and paralegal resources by Unit claim professionals. Is directly responsible for the daily management of support staff and paralegal duties. Assists Unit Directors in coordinating support staff and paralegals use by claim professionals in Unit. Provides Senior Paralegal support to claim professionals on special projects and complex and high-exposure claims. Position reports to a Unit Director. PRIMARY DUTIES: Supervises Unit support staff and paralegals to ensure that support staff and paralegal services are being provided to the Unit in an effective and efficient manner. Acts as a liaison between claim professionals and support staff and paralegals to manage and coordinate the provision of such services to the Unit. Manages human resource functions with respect to direct reports, including staff selection, training and development, performance management, personnel administration and employee communication. Implements performance goals and measurements in conjunction with Unit business objectives in a manner that will contribute to effectiveness and productivity of support staff and paralegals in the Unit. Provides technical guidance to support staff and paralegals and allocates support staff and paralegal resources as needed. Conducts regular meetings of support staff and paralegals to address issues and needs within the Unit. Develops and oversees efficient and consistent process in the intake and setup of new claims for claim professionals in the Unit, including managing and coordinating paralegal and support staff assignments in order to ensure proper workloads. Provides oversight and guidance to paralegals involved in designated complex claims and projects. Oversees the ordering of office supplies and use of outside reference sources, to ensure necessity and cost effectiveness. Coordinates legal bill and other outside vendor expense payment by support staff and paralegals. Provides status reports to outside agents involved in large accounts, including excess claims, as needed in order to facilitate claim professional response to such inquiries. Provides direction and training for Unit on legal research resources including Westlaw and Martindale-Hubbell Directories. Assists with consistent production of claim and underwriting files and related documents with respect to matters in litigation against the company, to ensure legal compliance and consistency. Manages a Unit Library/Resource Center, developing and overseeing reference materials on coverage and other issues affecting Unit claims. Performs Senior Paralegal duties for the Unit on special projects and complex and high exposure claims. EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY: Must be certified through an accredited paralegal training program, generally a two-year degree, or possesses a four-year college degree with equivalent course work. WORK EXPERIENCE: Seven to ten years of paralegal work experience within a law firm or corporate legal department, or similar relevant work experience. OTHER: Must have excellent organization, communication, leadership and management skills. Must be able to take the initiative and have an interest in continuing to build on his or her experience in an environment that requires a high level of independence and critical thinking skills.
