‘Managing the Supply Chain of vegetable seeds’
Job purpose of the Supply Chain Manager
Develop, monitor and execute plans of supply chain activities by crop from supplier to customer, with the objective creating net value by building a supportive infrastructure, leveraging worldwide logistics, synchronizing supply with demand and measuring performance globally.
Major Accountabilities
- Develop, implement and maintain an agreed Logistics Crop Strategy / Supply Chain Strategy with all relevant stakeholders based on LCD output by crop, in order to optimize the seed flow in Operations leading to improved processes and cost/financial efficiencies.
- This strategy includes:Supply Chain Strategy, in order to improve overall operational excellence, Inventory Management Strategy, in order to ensure efficient seed inventory management, Demand Supply / Seed Distribution Strategy (production areas – operations centers – sales markets), in order to optimize global seed flows, that enables departmental, divisional and corporate strategic decision making.
- Be a partner and contributor to the global business planning processes by crop.
- Consolidate, maintain and provide the global seed production plan by crop based on the global sales forecast, production estimates and economic inventory according the crop calendar.
- Manage and steer the crop flow for seeds/goods through our global supply chain from supplier to customer.
- Manage a consistent output of analysed management data per crop, in order to consolidate global management data for determining the supply chain actions to be taken in the global crop and to challenge relevant stakeholders to take ownership of agreed actions.
- Manage the global seed inventory (inventory levels, disposals, depreciation/provisioning) and global non-seeds inventory (raw materials, supplies) by crop.
- Develop and enhance the global cooperation between Logistics and Finance by developing communication structures and data reports that bring inventory data with financial data together.
- Interact with and update all stakeholders relating to all relevant Logistics functions, processes and management data.
- Monitor and analyse the global complaints by crop and report to all Global Heads and MB member responsible for the crop.
- Lead and direct the Logistics Crop Team by directing all business critical logistics processes and crop issues.
- Participate in all global crop meetings, to ensure global representation of Logistics/Supply Chain per crop.
- Establish and maintain global external communication networks with relevant seed industry and Logistics/Supply Chain contacts.
- Bring proposals for ERP-system and reporting improvements (short-term) and new ERP-system application needs (mid-long/long-term).
- Continuously monitor and evaluate crop expenditures in the supply chain, ensuring that costs stay within defined targets and/or cost savings can be achieved.
- Report to Global Head of Logistics by crop.
Skills, Experience Qualifications
- Bachelor/Master Degree in Logistics/Supply Chain, Economics/Business Administration, Process Engineering or related field.
- Five to ten years of experience in a managerial capacity, preferably in a logistics/supply chain, operations, product development, marketing sales and/or finance environment.
- In depth understanding of supply chain processes and supply chain management or related field.
- Basic knowledge of accounting and finance.
- Knowledge of the (vegetable) seed industry is an advantage.
- Experience with ERP-systems and inventory management.
- Strong analytical ability to identify major drivers quickly.
- Strong negotiation and commercial skills gained in a dynamic business environment.
- Effective teamwork and communication influencing skills and ability to deploy them effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Strong in challenging the business functions to take appropriate measures for process improvement and monitoring follow-up actions.
- Demonstrate ability to lead change and ability to work in a changing environment.
- Ability to work in a matrix organization in a dynamic international environment.
- Strategic thinking faculty.
- Strong communication and reporting skills (fluent in English / written and verbal).
- International travel required (25%- 35%).
