The Team: Operations

This position is in the Operations organization, which is responsible for leading the charge to achieve the cost, quality and delivery requirements of our customers globally.  We start by working integrally with all product Business Units within Cognex on the design and development of products to ensure all new products will achieve our high quality standards, release on-time, at volume and at or below the cost target

This position will be an essential part of the on-going Product Cost Reduction efforts. If you are passionate about driving continuous improvement and change on industry leading products from design through delivery, the Operations team is the place to be!


Position Summary:

This position is Cognex’s lead Supply Chain Program Manager for managing the Product Cost Reduction Process in Natick. This role interacts with all levels of the organization to identify and implement product cost reductions. The ideal candidate combines strong project leadership skills, technical and commercial expertise, and experience with international suppliers particularly in China.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Deliver targeted annual cost reductions on Cognex annual mechanical component spend of $5 Million USD.

  • Lead the process of identifying and prioritizing product cost reduction opportunities on mechanical components.
  • Meet with Business Unit Managers, Development Directors, NPI Program Managers and all levels of the organization to define cost reduction opportunities
  • Manage the process to define which projects are implemented into the Supply Chain. Define the business cases for each project and lead the process of selecting projects for implementation.
  • Manage the projects to implement approved product cost reductions from requirements definition through qualification and implementation into the Cognex supply chain using approved Cognex vendors.
  • As necessary, negotiate pricing and supplier contract terms and conditions with suppliers and distributors. Provide supplier project support as assigned.
  • As assigned - lead the identification, qualification, and supply chain set up of new suppliers as required for New Product Introduction. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Demonstrated success in leading cost reduction projects on mechanical components using Asian suppliers.
    • Expertise in qualifying and implementing supply chain projects.
    • Excellent communicator, ability to lead in an environment of in-direct control, analytical, fact based with an attention to detail.
    • Experienced at commercial negotiations with suppliers.
    • Experience with Contract Manufacturers.
    • Chinese language skills are preferred.

     

    Minimum Education and work experience

    1. Undergraduate degree and/or equivalent experience in a related field.
    2. 10+ years experience with mechanical sourcing for low cost and supply chain definition for Asian suppliers.

          3.  3-5 years experience negotiating pricing and Terms and Conditions with mechanical suppliers.
