Job Title Surgical Assistant Facility Aurora Medical Center Summit-135 Address 36500 Aurora Dr City Summit (Town of) State WI County Waukesha Zip Code 53066 # Hours Per Pay Period (Bi-weekly) 80 Schedule days with rotation Weekend Hours: on call rotation Req # (optional) 86494BR Explore a Career In Surgery Job Description * As First Assistant, under the direct supervision of the surgeon, performs a variety of duties during the surgical procedure including but not limited to: -Injects local anesthetic -Retracts tissue -Sutures -Cauterizes to the extent of coagulating bleeding vessels. -Assists with or performs wound closures. -Applies surgical dressings. -Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and potential complications for procedures assigned. * Assists in the preparatory steps of surgery, assists OR team in gathering supplies, opening room for cases, assists in lifting, transferring, positioning, preparing and draping the patient. * Anticipates, and responds to, the needs of the surgeon by ensuring all needed supplies are available for procedures prior to incision, recognizing individual preferences. * Precepts newly employed Surgical Assistants and Technologists. * Perform all responsibilities of Surgical Technologist (see separate job description). * Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. * Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
