Senior System Administrator - Hunt Valley, MD
Responsibilities
· Designs, implements, and manages both local and wide-area networks of machines spanning multiple datacenters on multiple continents
· Recommends additions and changes to information system standards, policies and procedures
· Rapidly troubleshoots service outages
· Effectively communicates technical information to Network Operations staff members and other corporate-wide staff
· Assists with the evaluation and purchase of services and/or product and inventory of computer hardware, software, cabling and communication products
· Provides monitoring, disaster recovery, and network hardware support
· Maintains up-to-date detailed documentation
· Provides strong project management skills
· Mentors novice system administrators or operators
Requirements
· Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
· More than five years of previous UNIX system administration experience
· Strong interpersonal and communications skills; capable of writing proposals or papers, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations to customers or client audiences or professional peers, and working closely with upper management
· Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to quickly assess and prioritize
· Flexible and adaptive; ability to provide structure where appropriate and needed
· A solid understanding of the UNIX operating system; understands paging and swapping, inter-process communications, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems
· A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, the design of consistent network-wide file system layouts
· Ability to program in an administrative language (Perl, a shell)
Desirable Background and Skills
· Experience or knowledge of the gaming industry
· Experience with Ethernet VLANs, switched internetworking, VPN, and MPLS circuits
· Programming background in any applicable language
· Publications within the field of system administration
