Systems Designer – SQL Server Database Design – Manchester - £40,000
The Systems Designer will be a key member of the Technology and Strategies team and will play a crucial role in the delivery of successful strategic solutions to the business. You will need to have a proven background within SQL Server database design across large scale businesses
The primary functions of the role involve the analysis, design and documentation of telecoms provisioning, assurance and billing systems. In order to achieve this, the candidate will be an intelligent individual possessing initiative and enthusiasm. In addition, the ability to solve complex problems with logical and creative solutions is required on a frequent basis.
The role necessitates an understanding across a wide spectrum of areas such as business requirements, industry processes, internal systems and third party system interfaces. Due to its varied nature it is usual to have to communicate with a wide range of people with differing technical capabilities and should result in the individual quickly gaining a thorough understanding of end to end processes.
Requirements
Functional knowledge
High level of technical competency within SQL Server database design
Demonstrate an ability to understand business processes which have impacts on project
Knowledge of telecommunications voice and data switching and routing is desirable.
Ability to work on a breadth of projects with tight timelines and considerable levels of complexity
Capability to draw on experience and knowledge quickly in order to articulate this knowledge to colleagues
Enthusiasm, adaptability and flexibility to thrive in a rapidly changing and exciting environment
Business expertise
An in-depth understanding of the commercial and financial side of the business is required in order that solutions delivered meet the business requirements.

Accountable for the successful analysis, high level documentation and design of designated projects

This role involves the analysis of complex situations to evaluate possible solutions which deliver according to business requirements.
Solutions to problems need to consider flexibility in order to cope with unforeseen requirements and increasing data volumes in such a rapidly changing environment.
Qualifications experience
Essential
Experience in a complex analytical role is required.
The candidate should be qualified to degree level or equivalent.
A background in application or database development/design is essential in order to understand system issues and technical complexities involved as well as appreciate typical timescales and problems which can occur.

Main responsibilities
As a member of the analysis and design team, the role offers a senior position with responsibilities and ownership of systems and solution designs
Undertaking a technical lead project role being active throughout design, implementation, testing and warranty phases of the project
Developing detailed understanding of existing systems and processes
Developing effective relationships with key stakeholders and internal customers
Impact assessing all aspects of business projects
Recommending solutions based on in-depth analysis which mitigate risk, achieve project objectives assessing them for both business and technical suitability.
Identifying non-functional requirements addressing shortfalls in both the business and systems early in the project development lifecycle
Interpreting relevant supplier documentation so as to appreciate and understand any potential impact.
Understanding of relationships with other parts of the internal group and external customers.
Developing close working relationship with project management to provide technical insight, perform impact assessments, estimate timescales for implementation and overseeing implementation during project lifecycle.
Developing close working relationship with development to assist with low level design and communication of implementation requirements ensuring user / business satisfaction.
Developing close working relationships with the operational side of the business to ensure operational viewpoints are considered in designs and to assist with the creation of solutions to operational problems.
Assisting in the creation of test cases with the test team
Providing on-going design support during the lifecycle of the project as low-level issues are identified
