Systems Administrator Job in Bristol, Connecticut US

We are seeking a Linux Systems Administrator. In this role, you will be expected to support Linux systems (mostly RHEL/Centos) that support not only business applications but also a variety of on-air and near-to-air systems. You will be expected to build new systems, upgrade, monitor, and troubleshoot existing systems and extend existing capabilities. You will also be expected to work with customers to gather requirements and convert them into actions.

The Linux team works closely with our Storage team and many of our largest systems are GPFS/Samba/CTDB clusters. Some of these clusters are a critical part of the Media Asset and Archiving systems that are responsible for getting content to air. You will be on a team responsible for over 300 Linux servers and collaborate with members that have over 30 years Unix experience. You will also interact with customers that create and deliver ESPN's content across all platforms.

• Day to day management and maintenance of Linux (RHEL/Centos) servers and services.
• Creation of new services
• Planning, Installing and upgrading software/hardware on Linux (RHEL/Centos)
• Create and update scripts that automate routine work
• Monitor servers and applications for errors and performance problems and resolve them
• Install and configure LINUX based Web services

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with Linux
• Knowledge with shell scripts, Perl, and PHP
• Experience developing and supporting new Perl scripts written by you and others
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills and a desire to take on responsibility
• Knowledge of network connectivity issues.
• The ability to work in an a team environment unassisted
• Possess good verbal and written communication skills – including working with non-technical end customers
• Flexibility in scheduling

• Minimum of 3 years of experience with RHEL/Centos 5.x
• Deep understanding of Samba running in an Active Directory enviorment
• Excellent Customer Service skills
• Experience with AIX
• Experience with IBM and/or EMC Storage arrays
• Understanding of Java/JBoss
• Minor/Major in engineering or computer science or equivalent experience
