We're looking for a Unix Systems Administrator to join our Operations team in managing our production Unix Systems. This will include managing, maintaining and continuing to enhance our Solaris and Linux systems in a 24 x 7, high transaction volume, mission critical environment.
Responsibility:
- Systems administration and management of production Linux/Solaris servers and storage systems
- Support and maintenance of large numbers of Linux servers, including the design and development of scripts and tools to assist with monitoring and reporting various aspects of system performance, resource utilization, and application usage
- Ensure all systems operate in an efficient, responsive, and secure manner.
- Participate in a 24x7 rotating on-call schedule
- Deploy and maintain mission-critical front-end web servers and back-end server farms based on documented system architecture
- Execute DNS entry changes, OS configuration changes, perform logical and physical changes to the production environment
- Lead in troubleshooting hardware, software and application issues to bring them to resolution quickly
- Assist in system performance tuning
- Write scripts and procedures for day-to-day operations
- Provide root cause analysis for issues and implement recommendation for prevention
- Document "as built" system infrastructure, policies, and procedures
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience with Systems Administration with a minimum of 3 years experience managing Unix Systems in mission critical, production environment
- Strong knowledge of Solaris and Linux
- Demonstrated success administering High Availability Linux and Solaris server clusters
- Experience with Legato, Veritas Volume Manager and Hitachi SAN solutions is a plus
- Knowledge of Open Source technologies
- Experience with Unix Shell and/or Perl scripting
- Experience with web application servers such as apache, tomcat and/or jboss is desirable
- Knowledge of network (Cisco), load balancing (F5) and database (Sybase) administration is a plus
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Desire and ability to train others
- Ability to think creatively under pressure
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or related technical discipline; Master's degree preferred
