Systems Administrator/Software Developer Job in Manassas 20110, Virginia US
Full-time position working out of Progeny Systems headquarters in Manassas, VA. Candidate will work on a fast-paced integrated product development team that includes representatives from multiple contracting organizations and DoD laboratory entities. The work involves supporting a distributed, net-centric system-of-systems with specific needs such as leading edge technology insertions for a DoD customer. This program provides at-sea situational awareness, mission planning, monitoring and execution capabilities.
The candidate will be responsible for numerous activities, first involving system administration duties for the next 6-9 months and then assuming a software development role for long-term employment.
Initial general areas of system administration responsibility include:
- IT support of the system suite in areas such as general hardware and server administration, user permissions and overall system health and performance
- Administration of content management systems (CMSs) and configuration management (CM) repositories
- Understanding of the various components, sub-systems and of the entire architecture as a whole
Subsequent general areas of software development responsibility include:
- Participation in the software engineering lifecycle, from requirements gathering, analysis and documentation to production support and maintenance
- Design, development, testing and delivery of software artifacts in support of customer requirements
- Support the writing and editing of new business proposals and other research and development efforts
- Work with senior architects and developers to create and/or improve architectural plans and implementations
Requirements:
- BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. Commensurate pay for years of experience
- Must be willing to travel occasionally within continental United States and less frequently outside the continental United States
- Ability to obtain DoD Secret security clearance
- Microsoft Windows (XP, 2003, 2008) and Linux based operating system technologies experience
- Active Directory / LDAP configuration management
- Group creation and membership management
- Working knowledge of GPOs and general security administration
- Working knowledge of SVN / CVS administration
- Account and permission management, setup and backup
- Familiar with network concepts and appliance configuration, such Cisco and HP
- Knowledge of and experience using Java
- Knowledge of and experience using XML, XQuery, XSLT, and other web technologies
- Desire to work within the entire systems engineering lifecycle
- A quick learner and adaptable to new technologies
- Good oral and written communication skills
- 3-7 years of professional experience
Desired Skills:
- Distributed, system-of-system experience

- Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) development, design, implementation experience
- Knowledge of and experience using design patterns
