Job Description: As a member of the Enterprise Architecture team, the Systems Architect Lead (SAL) will develop the architecture for enterprise-wide strategic initiatives using a federated resource model. They will also collaborate with business representatives and technologists to create initiatives to address the business needs. The SAL will work on business cases, validating the benefits, drivers and financial merits of strategic initiatives. The SAL will lead initiatives for the development of new and sufficiently complex components within the domain areas of information, applications, and technology; in order to meet business objectives. They will review and approve architectural deliverables created by solution architects, and participate in business requirements and functional requirements sessions to establish the architectural direction for large initiatives. They will: resolve complex technical problems by developing new tooling or techniques facilitate and manage the implementation of a significant and complex architectural initiative in cooperation with other technical members of the organization assess and approve third party and internally developed components to achieve interoperability and to meet long term business goals evaluate vendor products, conduct proof of concepts and build prototypes. Critical Skills: In-depth knowledge of the application development lifecycle Competent to perform at the highest technical level of system design Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends Ability to articulate rationale for architecture and design decisions to both technical and managerial audiences Strong influencing, decision making, and mentoring abilities Strong collaboration and networking skills Additional Skills or Responsibilities: Team building and relationship skills Planning and organizational skills Knowledge of UPS development technologies with the ability to architect on multiple platforms, such as: Web Client Server Middleware Messaging Mainframe Database Mobile Direct the development of new and complex components Participate in business requirements and functional requirements sessions to establish the architectural direction for large initiatives Develop and/or help institutionalize metrics that assess and report on architectural deliverables created by Solution Architects Oversee the architecture review pipeline, directing and influencing UPS programs with architecturally significant work efforts Facilitate the Balanced Scorecard process for Enterprise Architecture, collecting and reporting on project-level performance data Facilitate the integration of the Technology Standards and Technical Asset Repository processes with architecture review processes, ensuring that technical solutions are evaluated against corporate standards and reuse facilities. Demonstrate the ability to indirectly manage others within a federated organization of architects by negotiating, using organizational awareness, and technical knowledge Education: The desired Systems Architect Lead will possess a Bachelorrsquo;s degree in Computer Science or the equivalent in education and work experience. Relevant experience of 8-10+ years in systems analysis and application development required. Experience with state of the art application development support software packages and experience with some supervisory, management and administrative tasks required. Architecture certification by The Open Group or IASA are a plus BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: U.S. Citizen or National of the U.S., an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. for this employer.
