Position: Systems Engineer – HL7 Interface
Unit/Department: Information Services
Reports To: Manager, Information System
Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Occasional after hours and weekends. On-call as scheduled
Status: Full Time, Temporary – 24 months
Salary: From $68,162.24 to $82,123.18 per annum
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for maintenance of existing interfaces and designing, developing and testing of new interfaces between applications using Health Level Seven International (HL7) standards. The engineer will use Hospital’s Cloverleaf Integration engine and TCL scripting language to reformat and route messages, and use various protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, SOAP, and FTP. As required, be responsible for system administration of other Hospital systems. All roles are essential in providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and others by ensuring that health and safety policies are followed.
MIMINUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering or related fields. Formal Cloverleaf and TCL training a plus.
EXPERIENCE NECESSARY:
- Four years Cloverleaf experience. OpenEngine experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of Cerner Millennium healthcare applications and experience implementing HL7 interfaces in a multi-hospital system environment is a plus.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Understanding HL7 interface standards and methodologies.
- Expert at Cloverleaf Integration Engine.
- Proficient in developing code using TCL.
- IBM AIX operating system.
- Working knowledge of IBM Power Systems and pSeries servers.
- Skilled in interface analysis, interoperability setup testing of interfaces.
- Understanding of EHR and health system workflows.
- Ability to multitask and keep up with a fast paced environment.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent problem solving abilities.
- Passionate about learning new technologies, motivated and self-driven.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Good organizational and time management skills, including project management and the maintenance of records.
- Effective teaching skills and willingness to share knowledge.
- Aptitude to work well in a team environment or as an individual.
