Systems Engineer-IT Sr

Specific Job Description The individual selected for this position will serve as an expert network engineer and project leader on a dynamic and experienced team responsible for engineering, design, deployment, and maintenance of network systems. The ideal candidate for this position will possess both extensive network engineering experience and project leadership experience, and will serve in the dual role of technical expert and project manager for customer-directed projects on the program. This individual will collaborate closely with other members of the team to ensure that standards are followed and that engineered solutions follow repeatable processes. The work environment revolves around rapid design and deployment of capabilities, so the individual selected for this position must be comfortable in a fast paced environment and be able to quickly change directions based on changing priorities as dictated by the customer or by management. The applicant's excellent communication skills will be important in providing regular and concise status reports as well as in providing technical briefings to the program's review boards, management, and the customer. Systems designed will include some or all of the following key items: VoIP telephony, video teleconferencing, Cisco routers and switches, SONET, ATM, Laser network connections, satellite network connections, wireless networking, data encryption. All system designs will take system security considerations into account and will be subject to security testing and validation. Periodic travel may be required for this position. Standard Job Description Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems, and information technology related responsibilities including design, development, and analysis of computer systems or programs based on and related to user or system design specifications; applying systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
