The Systems Engineer role will be to help plan, design, implement and trouble shoot a large Microsoft VMware server environment. The ideal candidate will be extremely proficient in both Microsoft and VMware servers and comfortable in adapting to new technologies. They should be comfortable interfacing within a team environment, responsible for all aspects of systems administration including design, implementation, and troubleshooting of more than 200+ servers. The ideal Systems Engineer will have strong communication skills, is a true team player with a commitment to success, has leadership skills and will be able to thrive in a fast paced, rapidly-changing environment.
Description:
Provide Tier 3 support to accurately and quickly resolve all desktop infrastructure hardware and software issues escalating to Tier 3
Provide all levels of break/fix services to include repair and replacement of server infrastructure and engaging 3rd party support for same
Responsible for following established change control procedures and communicating changes to the IS and user community
Handle Microsoft and VMware server administration (this will include account administration, capacity planning/administration, and backup and restore administration)
Utilize in house remote control software to accurately and quickly resolve all Server and PC software, application and OS issues
Provide Tier 2 support for problem resolution when remote control is not acceptable or adequate (this includes all Microsoft products as well as third party and custom developed applications)
Provide on-call support for Windows infrastructure and following rotation schedules
Recommend, upgrade and apply new patches, firmware and updates to various devices
Maintains existing Windows 2003/2008 server systems to include troubleshooting, problem solving, upgrading and debugging
Ensure the security of server/desktop infrastructure and peripherals and performs audit and security investigations as part of CSIRT team to resolution
Qualifications:
BS in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems is preferred; however stellar work experience and Industry Certifications in place of degree may be acceptable
Position requires MCSE Certification
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on system support / engineering/administration experience is required
Minimum 5+ years of work experience supporting Microsoft and Citrix server, VMware, Windows XP, Win 7 clients, Exchange Server, and other desktop products such as Microsoft Office suite
Must have a complete working knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP protocols and be able to support communications software that will use such protocols.
Must also have a strong understanding of network topologies and common components, demonstrate a diverse set of good communication skills
Highly fluent in Microsoft technologies, such as Exchange, SQL Server, Active Directory
Highly fluent in storage and duplication technologies, such as Client and EMC SANs, host based replication
Highly Fluent in VMWARE (ESX Virtual Infrastructure) is required
Experience with Cisco Networking Configuration, troubleshooting a plus
A solid conceptual understanding of IP networking, network devices, and common topologies
Possesses one or more of the following certifications: CCNA, CCNP, VM Ware, MCSE, Citrix, etc
Ability to evaluate, recommend, and implement system management and monitoring solutions
Experience in enterprise security
Excellent customer service skills
