Job Description:
- Provide engineering expertise in the area of optics, high definition video analysis and advanced communication transport. In-depth study and analysis of specific tasks will result in white paper summaries and recommendations based on findings during research and analysis. The contractor shall provide a project schedule with milestones and projected completion dates. Contractor shall provide monthly status as required.
- Perform evaluation of O-E-O switching platform integrating KSC's DVTS and CORRS optical transport systems into the Kennedy Integrated Transmission System (KITS).
- Provide continued support for the evaluation of expanded beam fiber optic connector technology.
- Continue investigation of OTN technologies based on OTN G.709 with focus on assisting in evaluation of OTN equipment.
- Provide support for the evaluation of TDM based circuit emulation technologies over packet based Ethernet networks.
- Provide support for the evaluation of SMPTE based circuit emulation technologies over packet based Ethernet networks.
- Continue fundamental research in the investigation of a free space fiber optic connection link for possible use in communication to the mobile launch platform and potential rapid deployment applications.
- Provide support for the evaluation of IP Video based technologies.
- Provide laboratory support, design assistance, and troubleshooting support for the IT Communications Services Branch within the confines of the laboratory schedule and resources ability to support.
- Will be required to characterize the ability of the KITS single mode fiber optic cable outside plant to support 100 GB future services and compared to Air Force findings.
- Will be expected to attend professional conferences as required to maintain understanding of latest industry trends and offering.
Education - BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences/IT Systems with applicable technical management experience is desirable. Equivalent education/experience may be acceptable. Applicable technical certifications such as Cisco CCNA, or comparable are highly desirable and would be acceptable substitutes to degree requirements.
Technical Knowledge Skills - Broad understanding of optical networking and carrier class transport technologies. U.S. Citizenship Required
