Cobham is seeking a Systems Engineering Manager in Prescott, AZ or Bothell, WA.  Responsible to manage System Engineering within the business unit.  Particular emphasis is placed upon the development of avionics equipment including: servers, audio equipment, software defined radios, navigation receivers, transponders, and similar hardware. This role will be required to support the future growth of the business by leading the innovative design of new products and by driving the continuous improvement of existing products. The manager will be a key interface into the Product Line Business Development team.  The manager will leverage a multi-site Engineering Department and will participate as a key member of its leadership team.   Manager must be able to perform Systems Engineering tasks/documents, as well as manage a team of engineers.   

  
Responsibilities:

·         Handles all aspects of personnel management in conjunction with the Director of Engineering and Human Resources, such as disciplinary actions, hiring, and promotions

·         Determines staffing requirements and work schedules based on objectives

·         Communicates company plans, policies and procedures to employees on a regular basis.

·         Provides guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards, goals, and monitoring performance

·         Insures that all people are treated with mutual respect and fosters team work

 

Requirements:

·         BS EE or equivalent, MS EE preferred

·         15+ years of experience in avionics development

·         5+ years formally managing a development team

·         Avionics certification/qualification experience needed

·         Able to develop system level designs and manage a System Engineering Team to meet product design and sustainment objectives

·         Experience with DO-178B development, DO-254,  and DO-160 Qualification Testing

·         Experience with the following System level activities:

o        Develop System Level design architectures

o        Design-to-Cost and Design-for-Manufacturability

o        Translate customer requirements to system level requirements

o        Allocate system level requirements into hardware and software requirements

o        Failure modes and safety analysis

o        Timeline/latency analysis

o        Trade studies

·         Experience with developing a standard development process within the team

·         Experience interfacing with a customer

·         Experience with customer and/or FAA audits

·         Experience with a core product line (Radios, Com/Nav, Audio, and/or on-board computing platforms/servers)

·         Able to interface with the business development team to support product line roadmaps

·         Manages to schedules and metrics

·         Capable leader/manager with demonstrated inter-personal, motivational and team building skills

·         Able to work in a multi-site, one team environment

·         Competent System design skills, preferably with application to servers, radio frequencies, Com/Nav, and/or audio products

·         Excellent analytic and problem solving skills

·         Strong communicator
