Allison Transmission is currently looking for a Systems Project Engineer at their headquarters in Indianapolis, IN.
Position Description
- Develop system specifications to ensure product deliverables are met through hardware and / or software implementation.
- Develop and maintain an expertise in HD-OBD, OBD, and related CARB/EPA regulations.
- Assist in providing strategic direction for Allison Transmission on issues related to HD-OBD, OBD and CARB/EPA.
- Analysis of transmission designs for hydraulic, mechanical and electrical failure modes.
- Documentation of these failure modes in an industry standard DFMEA(Design Failure Modes Effect and Analysis) format.
- Use the DFMEA to design embedded algorithms to detect all failure modes and respond appropriately.
- Oversee the implementation of the above specifications and algorithms either through direct implementation in C language, or through the software engineering group.
- Calibrate, test and validate these designs through simulator, engine powered test-cell and in-vehicle testing.
- Maintain all required documentation.

Required:
- BSEE, BSME or equivalent experience required
- At least 6-10 years of experience required.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
- Expertise in On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) and/or Heavy Duty On-Board Diagnostics (HD-OBD) required.
- Expertise in various government regulations (CARB, EPA) required.
- Experience developing and debugging diagnostic algorithms in embedded powertrain control systems required.
- Experience computer based datalogging and and analysis tools (ETAS Inca or equiv) required.
- Experience with database configuration management systems (CM Synergy, Clearcase, etc) required.
- Experience writing and degbugging C Language software in real-time enbedded systems required.
- Experience with CAN and/or other vehicle-based serial communications systems required.
- Ability to analyze and understand mechanical and electrical systems and interactions, with a focus on failure modes required.
- Ability to communicate highly technical issues for non-technical audience required.
- Ability to obtain Class A CDL(Commercial Driver's License) after starting employment required.
- Travel Required:
Preferred:
- BSEE/ME double,MSEE or equivalent experience preferred
- Familiar with PC based auto-coding tools such as ETAS Ascet or IBM Rhapsody preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude or background knowledge of how automatic transmissions work preferred.
- Understanding of internal combustion engines and commercial vehicles preferred.
- Experience in technical group leadership preferred.
