Northrop Grumman Marine Systems specializes in the development; manufacturing, assembly and testing of missile launching and handling systems, propulsion, and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines.
Candidate will prepare system safety program plans and conduct system safety analyses (e.g. PHLs, PHAs, SSHAs, SHAs, OSHAs, and SARs) and recommend system safety design requirements and criteria in specifications and procedures to control or eliminate hazards over equipment its life cycle. Individual will manage a closed loop hazard tracking system and generate periodic status reports. Generate a hazardous material list and manage their usage in new designs. Candidate will interact with equipment designers, product teams, and customer in developing, coordinating and presenting system safety plans, analyses, requirements, and findings/recommendations. Develops budget estimates and prepares/monitors schedule for planned system safety activities. Periodic travel within the US will be required. Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a secret security clearance.
Skills required: Executing a system safety program in accordance with MIL-STD-882 on hardware systems containing mechanical, electrical, software and explosive components. Experience generating PHLs, PHAs, OSHAs, and SARs. Knowledge of State and Federal safety standards/regulations, Industry Standards, Human Factors (MIL-STD-1472), and familiarity with hazardous materials. Good Technical writing, presentation, and communication skills. Good knowledge and usage of MS Office products. Experience with missile launching systems a plus. Experience with Insensitive Munitions and Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board a plus. Ability to develop the probability of a mishap occurrence is a plus. Software safety experience is a plus.
BS in Mechanical Engineering or an engineering related field required, with 5 years of systems safety experience on a MIL-STD-882 type program. Status as a Certified Safety Professional would be a plus. Previous experience as a systems engineer and/or a design engineer is a plus.
Must be a US citizen.
