Our Vertex Inc. Returns Outsourcing office in Naperville, IL is experiencing significant growth and is continuously looking to hire talented Tax Analysts who will work closely with Vertex’s clients to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timely filing of the client’s returns and payments by performing a wide range of sales and use tax (SUT) compliance functions, in addition to understanding various business entities (i.e. retail, software, manufacturing, leasing, etc.) and the related SUT compliance details involved. In this role, you will assume responsibility for the following:
- Prepare clients sales and use tax returns for the time sensitive SUT compliance cycle.
- Communicate frequently with Client contacts via phone and e-mail
- Analyze tax data for accuracy, investigate questionable data and take corrective action when necessary
- Import monthly tax data to Vertex Returns software
- Post completed returns and reconciliation files to an online repository
- Timely initiate electronic filings and payments
- Maintain monthly tax calendars, reconciliation and analysis reports
- Respond to, resolve, and track notices from taxing jurisdictions
- Participate in the setup process for all new clients
- Prepare bank reconciliation and analysis for each Client
- Exercise professional judgment to resolve basic tax accounting problems
We encourage individuals possessing all of the following minimum qualifications to apply immediately:
Work experience:
- 3+ years of sales use tax experience is highly desired
- Public accounting experience preferred
- Specific knowledge of multi-state tax preparing software and preparation of monthly SUT returns (preferably with Vertex Returns software)
Specialized Knowledge Skills required:
- Knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax software
- Strong excel skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Must be detailed oriented, a team player, and have strong organizational skills
- Must be able to work under tight monthly deadlines
- Must be able to problem-solve and adapt to change
- Understanding of basic tax accounting principles, SSTP, SOX, SAS70
- Mandatory overtime will be required when needed. Due to the critical timelines, time off between the 5th and the 20th of each month is not permitted
Education Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related experience
