Purpose of Role
- Acts as the main coordinator regarding the various tax related questions raised by our partners (Front Office, Operations). Organizes and monitors help desk capabilities together with other tax team members to ensure optimum tax team availability to our partners. Designs a tracking process for incoming queries. Identifies needs for and rolls out trainings and best practices in this context to relevant tax team members.
- Act as one of the senior contact points for incoming tax questions from the Front Office and from Operations
- Manages and monitors correct application of various operational taxes in the private banking space (European Savings Directive, Final Withholding Tax Agreements / RUBIK etc.)
- Guides and monitors tax related activities within the Operations team (e.g. updates on applicable withholding tax rates, operational implications of tax law changes)
- Participation in special projects within the wider FITAX department depending on aptitude and suitability of the jobholder
Responsibilities
Operational Tax:
- Acts as the main coordinator from a management perspective regarding the various tax related questions raised by our partners (Front Office, Operations) on the operational taxes linked to the private banking business in which we operate. Organizes and monitors help desk capabilities together with other tax team members to ensure optimum tax team availability to our partners. Designs a tracking process for incoming queries. Identifies need for and rolls out of internal trainings and best practices to relevant tax team members.
- Acts as one of the main contact points from a content perspective for incoming tax questions from the Front Office and from Operations.
- Works hand in hand with colleagues from the tax team and from other departments to ensure full understanding of the relevant fact pattern is achieved. Solicits input from other tax colleagues (e.g. re QI, FATCA, Swiss Stamp Tax) to provide our partners with correct conclusions in a timely fashion.
- Manager and monitors correct application of the various taxes in the private banking space (European Savings Directive, Final Withholding Tax Agreement etc.).
- Guides and monitors tax related activities within the Operations team (e.g. updates on applicable withholding tax rates, operational implications of tax law changes)
Other Tasks:
- Participation in special projects within the wider FITAX department depending on aptitude and suitability of the jobholder
- The jobholder will also work with junior members of the tax team in the execution of the tasks, which requires a flair for instructing team members and reviewing their work products.
- Participates in training efforts within the tax team and provides training to our other partners in the organization (Front office, Operations)
- Assistance with process descriptions and tax risk management activities within the tax department
Professional Qualifications Key Competences
- Preferably law degree; or university degree in economics or accounting; or equivalent
- Swiss tax expert diploma or German tax accountant or UK tax qualification
- 5 to 10 years of post (tax) qualification work experience in an accounting firm, law firm, bank or other financial institution
- Previous work experience regarding operational taxes in a (Swiss) bank / financial services provider is a must. Willingness to acquire additional knowledge on operational taxes to become established key contact person.
- Willingness to become educated in the bank specific terms and systems in order to provide meaningful guidance on taxes to our partners in the bank.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately across departments such as the Front Office, Operations, the Product Development team as well as with junior team members and members of senior management
- Highly organized, structured, thorough, with a good sense of initiative and drive.
- Team player; flexible and capable of working under pressure on very tight deadlines.
- Ability to face multi customer requests. Committed to provide excellent customer service.
- Sense of integrity
- Strong analytical skills, number literacy
- Strong knowledge of IT tools such as Microsoft Office Applications.
- Fluent in English, French and/or German
