Acute Care Tech assists in providing direct patient care to ACC patients. He/she performs general department support duties as needed. The Acute Care Tech performs duties in collaboration with members of a multidisciplinary patient care team. He/She promotes excellence in ACC patient care and customer service by demonstrating competency in clinical, technical and interpersonal skills. Essential Functions: - Maintain a focus on the patient as the most important customer of the ACC/CDU. Provide personalized care and service to each and every patient, making them feel welcomed, safe, and more at ease. - Anticipate and provide for the physical comfort and emotional needs of patients and their families, respecting their privacy and maintaining their dignity. - Provide smooth and rapid delivery of patient care and service by sharing work with team members. - Collaborate with all staff involved in providing care for the ACC/CDU patient, both intra- and interdepartmentally; demonstrate an attitude that reflects respect for the responsibilities and priorities of coworkers. - Communicate openly and effectively with patients, families, physicians and coworkers, using communication techniques appropriate for the situation. These techniques may include actively listening to others, using open body language, maintaining good eye contact, checking for understanding, and providing or receiving feedback calmly and constructively. - Act as a positive role model for coworkers, speak positively aboutKP and departmental decisions, and seek to obtain new or enhanced knowledge and skills. - Contribute to the improvement of the quality of care and service in the ACC/CDU. - Identify opportunities to improve workflow and customer service. Assist in solving problems by participating in department quality improvement meetings and activities. - Assist in patient assessment by accurately collecting and documenting simple patient data. All tasks performed will be documented upon completion. Communicate appropriate information to RN and ACC/CDU physician. - Perform EKGs; obtain viable tracings and document appropriate information. - Perform routine venipuncture and blood specimen collection, properly identify the patient and label specimens correctly perform removal of INT. - Perform POC glucose using correct technique; perform controls on POC glucose machine as required. - Perform splinting, crutch walk education and assist with other orthopedic procedures. - Assist in delivering patient care based on instruction from and under the supervision of the ACC/CDU RN and physician. - Transport of patient specimens, orders, supplies, or documents as needed. - Effectively assist RN and MD in performing various patient procedures. - Assist RN in preparing patient for discharge. - Replenish department stock items when required. - Provide care with respect for the inherent dignity, autonomy, cultural beliefs and individuality of each patient. - Maintain patient privacy in accordance with KP policies and procedures during assessments and treatments and ongoing care in the ACC/CDU. - Properly complete and maintain patient records. This includes: - Process orders, retrieve and enter data in the ACC/CDU information systems according to department policy and procedure. - Accurately and efficiently enter physician orders, supply orders and charges into the HealthConnect system, and retrieve patient and physician information, including diagnostic test results, from the system. Qualifications: Basic Qualifications: - High school diploma or GED. - BLS certified through the American Heart Association. - Proficient in performing EKGs. - Proficient in performing phlebotomy. Preferred Qualifications: - Proficiency with patient tracking systems, automated physician orders and supply chain. -1 year as an ED tech, Paramedic, Military Medic or completion of an emergency tech course.
