Technical Accounting Controller – Seeking Qualified junior Product Controllers who want a more varied technical role recruitment

 The Accounting Control team is a specialist team within Finance that has primary responsibility for ensuring the integrity of the disclosure and presentation of the financial reporting for the Fixed Income and Equities businesses, as well as ensuring compliance with various different Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAPs). We act as a key interface between the various businesses, Product Control and Group Operational Finance in ensuring the accuracy of reporting and understanding of technical accounting.

The Role:

• will give you the opportunity to work in a team responsible for the delivery of the various multi-GAAP reporting requirements for FICC’s Structured Derivative and Note Issuance Programmes across the whole of the FICC business;
• primarily involves performing the multi-GAAP reporting for the Structured Derivative and Note Issuance Programmes. This is a key area of focus for FICC and the Bank as a whole and this role will bring exposure to Product Control management and the business, as well as providing a good overview of FICC’s operations. You will experience a wide variety of more complex products/structures, facilitating career development prospects in BUC and other areas;
• will be to act as a contact for Accounting Policy, particularly with regard to obtaining Accounting Policy approval in assessing new complex trades; and
• involves assisting with ad-hoc analysis/requests to assess the potential impact of new regulations, both internal and external.

The Ideal Candidate would be:

• a qualified accountant preferably working in a product control environment or with some experience of auditing financial institutions;
• aware of accounting treatments for different types of fixed Income transactions, particularly those which impact derivatives businesses (for example IFRS (IAS 39, IAS 32), US GAAP (FIN 46(R))) desirable), and use of/accounting for SPEs;
• knowledgeable of the front-to-back product control process (again, this is desirable but not essential);
• proficient in Microsoft Excel (vlookups, pivots etc.). Database knowledge desirable;
• used to working in teams, with good interpersonal skills and a desire to understand the bank’s systems and products
