Technical Architect recruitment
The UBS Chief Technology Office (CTO) organization is recruiting a high calibre Technology Architect to help direct and manage strategic change across the UBS Global Asset Management Application landscape. Based in London, the individual will join the Business Unit Chief Technology Office (BU CTO) for Global Asset Management (Global AM) within UBS. The team is responsible for providing CTO leadership and collaborative direction setting across Global AM and ensuring the alignment of Global AM IT decision making with CTO goals and priorities.
The BU CTO team aligned with Global AM contributes to the technical architecture of the IT division to provide the best and most efficient support to the business line. Architects act as lead designers on new and existing systems working in conjunction with business aligned application delivery teams. As the successful candidate you will be responsible for ensuring Global AM continues to deliver quality applications built on strong, well proven architecture principles giving the availability, supportability and recoverability that a global finance house expects at a competitive cost.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
• Working with the with the GLOBAL AM development teams to enable solutions for the numerous applications and business teams
• Interfacing with other IT resources within the CTO including developers, architects aligned with other business areas and Central IT functions
• Having the capability, confidence and experience to conceptualise, design and assist in the implementation of the development and production architectures for new and existing systems, including all platform components e.g. Network, Storage, Servers, Databases, Middle Tiers, GUI Applications and surrounding services
• Reviewing new and existing systems implementations to provide guidance on best practice and to provide assistance with solving critical issues
As the ideal candidate you possess:
• Hands on experience of the design and implementation of strategic architecture within a high volume transaction, mission critical environment
• The ability to fill the gap between development teams and the core infrastructure teams within UBS, and therefore a clear understanding of both sides is mandatory for this role
• The ability to understand application issues and how they are represented at the platform level - Development Methodologies, Application Servers, Database Technologies (Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase), Server and Portal technologies, Protocols (HTML, XML), Security Technologies, Middleware Technologies (e.g. MQ series), Scheduling, Systems management and monitoring
• The ability to assist development teams with both application and process architecture
• The ability to understand all aspects of data including data modelling, data transformation, and data delivery through service oriented architectures
• An understanding of systems integration issues for full front to back system architectures
• The ability to work well with large and small teams to ensure that project deliverables are realised
• Strong communication skills, required to effectively liaise with fellow architects and team leads to assist project deliveries
• The ability to operate at all levels within the organisation and to explain solutions at a conceptual and technology level
• An understanding of market trends in terms of technology changes and profiles
• Strong leadership, good communication skills and a high degree of credibility are imperative
• Ability to drive the competitive tendering process to select and adopt new technologies / package solutions
