Location : School of Medicine Dentistry Opening Full Time 40 hours Grade 052 Cancer Center/Clin Trials Ofc Schedule 8 AM-5 PM Position Summary Responsible for the University of Rochester Wilmot Cancer Center processing laboratory that supports clinical trials and basic science research through Hematology/Oncology for all division investigators. Provides direct management and teaching support at the professional level by directing the operations of the laboratory. Typical Duties Review and evaluate laboratory results to ensure adherence to quality assurance and control procedures and review and evaluate quality of specimens generated by the lab and improve methods in the lab. Perform quality assurance on all data generated by the lab and perform analysis of data to ensure accurate reporting of results to the lab Director and investigators. Ensure the lab operates under Good Clinical Lab Practices. Coordinate and respond to audits. Respond to queries about quality of data from a centralized data management center. Develop changes in procedures to correct problems. Prepare quality assurance reports. Develop and modify operating procedures and procedures for data collection and handling. Write and revise standard operating procedures for processing clinical trial samples for all protocols. Evaluate and modify training procedures to ensure that operating procedures are followed. Responsible for evaluating staff and for ensuring adequate staffing to cover the work the lab is contracted to do. Responsible for interviewing and hiring new staff when needed. In order to implement improvements, advise and assist technical staff with their proficiency and competency and retrain and/or teach new methods. Be accountable for the professional conduct and technical performance of the lab staff. Maintain relationships with department chairperson and current investigators. Develop relationships with new investigators both within and outside the department as well as public relations and market services of the lab to University investigators. See, find and secure new customers and coordinate with the lab supervisor to get new clinical grails worked into the lab operations. Keep abreast of trends in the labs fields of intent, identify literature of interest and use to improve the laboratories operations. Help assess financial needs for new protocols. Evaluate fee structure based on expenditures. Identify and implement cost saving measures while ensuring quality. Perform other related duties. Requirements Bachelor's degree with major course work in field of assignment, and 2 years (prefer 3 years) of related experience in field of assignment. A year or more of post-bachelorette academic work in field or assignment or a related field is desirable, or an equivalent combination of experience, training and education.
