Technical Estimator Job in Hastings, East Sussex, Southern UK
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that all customer requests for quotation are accurately costed and profitably priced with the express intention of negotiating and securing profitable orders for the business.
Key Responsibilities:
New business development
Growth of existing customer accounts
Responding to incoming requests for quotations
Preparing/presenting detailed technical proposals (quotations)
Reporting to senior management on sales activity and off site visits.
You will also be responsible for contributing towards the achievement of the company’s strategic and operational sales and profit targets.
The job may include other reasonable duties / tasks from time to time.
This position does not carry any supervisory or managerial responsibility / accountability.
Main Duties:
Technical Sales Estimating
Manage and action all requests for quotation.
Maintain the Virgin Sales Leads Analysis spread sheet.
Ensure all quotations are followed up swiftly and negotiation takes place as required to secure sales orders.
Apply technical, commercial pricing knowledge to accurately prepare bills of quantity against customer design specification and requirements.
As necessary - liaise with shop floor staff to help predict manufacturing times and associated costs;
Estimate all the costs related to materials, services, labour, manufacturing times and distribution in order to be able to calculate and present a quotation price taking into consideration and allowing for all associated business overheads and profit margins required in accordance with company targets
Apply commercial, selling presentation skills in submitting professional detailed quotations.
Apply selling, negotiation communication skills in following up quotations as quickly as possible with the express aim of securing profitable business for the company.
Promote customer relations sales development through planned regular contact with key existing customers.
Create detailed and informative Customer Visit De-Brief reports and follow through any actions points as required.
Maintain Activity Summary Report for all contact made with new / existing customers
Obtain the key contact details for all prospective clients before business packs are posted out.
Follow up business packs submissions with a personal phone call to establish contact and arrange an external sales visit.
Promote new sales development through personal contact with targeted prospective customers.
Action New Customer Courtesy Call Report at the end of every month
Person Specification:
A high degree of technical competence is essential with a good understanding of up-to-date manufacturing processes. As such you will have a background / qualification in mechanical engineering, coupled with a proven track record in technical sales.
It is essential that you are commercially astute and an excellent relationship-builder
Ideally educated to HNC/HND/Degree level in Mechanical Engineering
Possess a broad background in mechanical engineering / manufacturing with a wide range of knowledge on manufacturing and production processes, preferably sheet metal related
Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering technical drawings
Have a detailed understanding of MRP systems
Experience and use of 3D CAD modeling, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
