Technical Manager

Job Responsibilities:

·         Hands-on managerial position to lead the development of innovative adhesives, sealants, and construction materials based on reactive polyurethane, moisture-curable hybrids, PUD and related technologies

·         Develop value-added bonding solutions to meet market-wide application requirements and opportunities

·         Lead and develop a staff of chemists, technicians, and support staff.

·         Direct and coordinate the activities of technical personnel and the downstream RD laboratory for elastic bonding technology

·         Manage the RD budget for the Compounded Adhesive Elastic Bonding technology group

·         Work closely with the Construction Consumer and Industrial Business Units and the Technical Resources Group to develop and implement business and technical strategy to grow our regional Americas business

·         Primary markets include flooring installation adhesives (hardwood, ceramic, rubber), construction, marine and industrial adhesive/sealants, waterproofing, roofing, construction components, and product assembly

·         Interface with the Upstream RD group in Europe and the global expert teams for elastic bonding technology

·         Manage the RD efforts/personnel required for technical support to Manufacturing

·         Work with supply management to ensure raw material availability, lower raw material costs, and identification of new raw material technology

·         Practice and promote safe work habits and comply with all Bostik EHS requirements

·         Reports to the Chief Technology Director for Bostik Americas

 

Job Requirements:

·         Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Material Science/Engineering

·         10+ years proven track record of new product/technology development in relevant adhesive and sealant technologies- polyurethane, silane modified hybrids, compounded reactive systems, PUD, silicones, etc.

·         Understanding waterborne and/or cementitious chemistry a plus

·         Experience in managing a research team of technologists 

·         Outgoing and dynamic with strong communication and leadership skills

·         Ability to travel 15-30% of the time
