The Role: Within the AWS Networking team, one of our core tenets is as follows: Prevent Fires Instead of Fighting Them - We close availability and security risks before they become problems because nothing is more important. We stay ahead of customer impacting issues through brilliant monitoring and capacity planning. With this message at the forefront of our minds, the L7 Loadbalancing team is looking to hire a world class, customer focused Technical Program/Project Manager to found and lead the Hardware Loadbalancing Capacity Management group. The successful candidate will be charged with ensuring that, at all times, we deliver the right amount of loadbalancer capacity to the right place at the right time for the lowest possible cost. The Loadbalancer Capacity Management Program will flow from the following ideals: Be the Earth?s most customer-centric capacity management team. We will know our customer capacity requirements better than they do. We will build trust by executing flawlessly to our customer-agreed plans. Our customers will be delighted to work with us. Take ownership for the existing 2012 HWLB Capacity Capex plan. Document all inputs and algorithms used to create this plan such that creating further iterations can become an easily repeatable, automatable and transparent process. Deriving from the existing Global Master plan, create actionable sub-plans by customer, cluster and datacenter. Never constrain the business with lack of capacity (while minimizing unused capacity) . We always stay ahead of customer demand and at the same time remain true to our frugal roots. We don?t compromise just because this is hard. Partner with Network Capacity Management team to create statistical HWLB scaling models on a per customer basis. Manage third-party vendor relationship to ensure capacity and sparing requirements can be met globally. Save the company millions of dollars by creating and championing company-wide loadbalancer utilization efficiency aimed at minimizing wasted, idle or unused loadbalancer capacity. Enable scale by creating lean, documented processes to support everything we do. We will automate everything possible. We avoid ad-hoc or one-off engagements because they are inefficient, failure prone and don?t scale. Create and champion standards, templates and repeatable processes within L7 that enable fast, smooth scaling and easy collaboration with adjacent teams. Drive for automated processes wherever possible. We will be transparent by measuring and reporting on everything we do in a methodical, reproducible fashion; ensuring that our customers get from us all that they need to manage their business. Our customers will not describe Loadbalancers as a black box, opaque or confusing. We will be in lock step alignment with our customers on everything we do. Take ownership and drive all near term capacity management deliverables on behalf of L7. Where missing, build metrics to better understand customer behavior so we can make the most informed investments possible. Every dollar spent will have an accountable owner. We spend a lot of Amazon?s money and we take that responsibility very seriously. We ensure accountability is present for every dollar spent. Identify key customer contacts for each sub plan, meet with customers and get agreement and validate/update plans Partner with datacenter operations, finance, legal procurement to ensure HWLB budget and inventory are transparently well managed.
