Technical Project Manager

TECHNICAL PROJECT MANAGER… based from London or Cambridge. Travel to client site required.
The Technical Project Manager is responsible for customer implementation success and reference ability through strategic delivery of implementation activities of Autonomy's enterprise software solutions. Successful Technical Project Managers develop personalized relationships with strategic customers, and are trusted advisors and subject matter experts across all aspects of solution implementation, deployment, and adoption. The Technical Project Manger works manages and leads engagements, and act as a technical team leader providing management, technical oversight, and mentoring to junior technical resources.
The successful candidate will have a good academic record coupled with excellent communication skills and a demonstrable capability to deliver IT based projects. Preference will be given to candidates holding a recognised project management certification such as PRINCE2 or PMP. Experience in traditional and agile software delivery models is also required.
Typical Duties:
Develop expert, architectural and implementation design knowledge on one or more Autonomy product lines Leads solution design efforts for strategic customers. Leads meetings with client's business users to identify project objectives and business requirements; and with client's IT users to identify requirements
- Manages expectations directly with client executive/senior staff
- Creates and tracks the project plan and schedule
- Provides feedback to customers and creates structured documentation, including specifications and weekly status reports
- Advises client on configuration and implementation options based on best practices
- Leads the business requirements gathering process for client customizations
- Leads customization design sessions with the client and project team
- Acts as a mentor for clients in transferring solution critical knowledge
- Ensures that all implementation methodology deliverables are complete and on-time
- Manages Professional Services relationships and communications with other Autonomy Technical departments including RD and Technical Support
- Leads technical knowledge management and transfer initiatives within the Professional Services organization
- Contribute Professional Services components as part of sales cycles, including implementation scoping, system sizing, and system architectural design
- Generates timely project status, time, and expense reports as requested by management.
Experience:
- Upper second class honours degree or higher in a technical discipline
- Recognised Project Management Certification preferred (Prince 2, PMP)
- Demonstrable experience in a technical environment with demonstrable success in a project management or team leading role
- Extensive experience of at least ONE or more of the following OS platforms: Solaris, Linux and NT. The candidate will also have practical experience of Web Servers such as IIS, Apache, Netscape. Database technology such as MS SQL Oracle is also highly desirable
- Must have experience as a vendor and/or consultant working in Project Management capacity with external clients
- Experience with technical design and management of enterprise-class software deployments
- Experience Performance tuning, systems management, backup/recovery/DR scenarios
- Ability and desire to travel frequently to client locations
- A positive "can do" attitude towards the commercial, technical and staffing challenges
