Scholastic Education Technology department is currently seeking a: Senior Technical Project Manager, SAM Connect

The Opportunity

Scholastic Education’s Technology Group builds smart, adaptive educational software used by over 1 million students inside schools across the country. All products are driven by a common Java/JBoss/Spring/Hibernate/MySql backend with a suite of Flex 4 based client applications.

Application servers can be deployed on-site in school districts or hosted at Scholastic data centers. Each application server “calls home” regularly to a centralized, hosted system, SAM Connect, providing avenues for an ever-increasing number of services in support of the core learning platform, including data synchronization, license management, and software updates.

The Position

We are seeking a Sr. Technical Project Manager to manage the execution and sustainability of SAM Connect, Reporting to the Executive Producer and working closely with the SAM Connect architect and engineers, the Sr, Technical Project Manager will serve as the production lead on platform-wide initiatives focusing on the sustainability, redundancy and failover capacity of this critical system.

Key Responsibilities:

Coordinates with software engineering and hosting operations to design and execute multi-faceted, enterprise level, integration and web based projects.

Leads team of engineers and quality assurance engineers to design, implement, and test SAM Connect features.

Collaborates with product producers to implement key product features that leverage SAM Connect technology.

Maintains backlog of SAM Connect feature requests

Identifies/vets vendors as needed to supplement internal staff

Communicates weekly status.

Qualifications:

Ideal Candidate:
The ideal Sr. Technical Project Manager candidate has led a software development team on school-based education products that incorporate multiple and complex technologies.

Relevant Experience:
Experience in SDLC methodologies and tools: SDM, Agile, MS Project, Jira/Greenhopper, Work Breakdown, JAD/RAD, Plus experience in one or more of the following:

Web Systems development:
• Experience in Web application development using in one or more object oriented languages: C++, C#, Java, .NET
• Experience in Web application development using Javascript (or VB Script), HTML, CSS, XML
• Experience in distributed N-Tier application development with open source technologies: MySQL, Apache/Tomcat/JBoss, Linux
• Experience in Relational Database Development with one or more relational database technologies: MySQL, Oracle/PLSQL,SQL Server/ Transact SQL
• Experience with NOSQL database configuration and development: Mongo, CoachDB
• Experience in developing high-performance transactional systems
• Experience in designing and developing highly available and scalable N-Tier applications
• Experience in development of message-based applications using open-source technologies.

Enterprise Architecture Management:
• Experience in Enterprise Architecture Lifecycle Management
• Experience in IP-based technology architecture management and support on Unix or Linux platforms
• Experience in Application Portfolio Management for a large company
• Experience in Database Architecture Management for a large database enterprise
• Experience Business Process Improvement methodologies and tools such as Six Sigma, TQM, ISO 9000 with evidence of improvement
• Experience in design and integration of asynchronous message-based architectures
• Creation of documentation for emergency procedures and disaster recovery for systems built
