TECHNICAL RESEARCH ASSISTANT II / 40 HOURS / DAY / BWH - DEPT. OF NEUROLOGY

GENERAL SUMMARY / OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center (HNDC) seeks a talented and enthusiastic individual to work as a Technical Research Assistant II and provide support to our programs at the NeuroBehavior Laboratory (NBL), located in the Longwood Medical Area. The NBL has been carefully designed to meet the exacting standards required for mouse behavioral studies and to provide the Harvard community and other investigators access to a broad range of reliable behavioral/cognitive tests necessary to analyze and interpret the impact of a genetic, surgical or pharmacologic manipulation on specific behaviors. The successful candidate will work under the general direction of the NBL?s Director and will be responsible for conducting a variety of routine behavioral experiments in mice. Responsibilities also include troubleshooting, developing, optimizing and validating mouse behavioral and cognitive tests. This person may perform literature searches under direction of supervisor. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assuring proper maintenance of lab equipment. 2. Characterizing the behavioral phenotype of new mouse models of neurological disorders. 3. Assessing the effects of new pharmacological agents or brain surgeries on behavioral/cognitive functions. 4. Collecting, organizing, analyzing, and summarizing experimental results. 5. Maintain supplies inventory; discuss progress of work regularly with supervisor.
