TECHNICAL WRITER - CONTRACT TO HIRE

Physical Optics Corporation has an immediate opening for a Technical Writer in the Business Operations Department. This position provides technical writing support for multiple, concurrent proposals to defense, intelligence, civilian, and law enforcement agencies of the U.S. Government. Individual will support  the proposal development life-cycle process for small business innovation research (SBIR, NON-SBIR), strategic and tactical, prime and subcontracted, Federal Government opportunities in response to solicited (BAA’S, RFP’S, RFI, RFQ’S, Sources Sought, White Paper) and unsolicited opportunities.

Responsibilities:

·         The Technical Writer will interpret RFP/solicitation requirements and develop proposal outlines, and compelling (a) resumes; (b) project summaries; (c) past performance narratives; (d) management plans/approaches; (e) responses to sources sought, RFIs and (f) other proposal narrative and modules as required. He/she will develop targeted questions and interview technical and programmatic staff to extract from them the critical information necessary to include in proposals.

·         Technical Writer works independently as well as in a team environment. Attention to detail is a must. Utilizes skilled methods to improve the grammar, logical flow, clarity, and coherence thereby conveying technical concepts precisely to proposal evaluators.

·         Organize material and write proposal inputs to meet RFP requirements and specifications regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.

·          Perform editing on various volumes. Edit material for structure, completeness, accuracy, organization consistency and appropriateness of content. Recommend changes in scope, format and content, restructuring and rewriting as required. Responds to customer requests for clarification or information, as required or requested.

·         Utilizes highly developed writing skills and must be able to re-write material to fit defined document templates and standards as required.

·         Actively participate in proposal preparation activities including: technical writing/editing; Method for writing is electronic. Will support company initiatives such as EVMS, CMMI, with participation and writing of technical documentation

·         Openly communicates status of projects, and or problems to internal teams and external teams (technology divisions) with identification of a solution.

·         Provides direction and feedback to assist authors, other editors, and internal team in developing boilerplates/templates for new documentation.

·         Maintains organization and focus when faced with changing requirements (from internal management decisions).

·         Maintains flexibility and responsiveness within a fluid, customer service-oriented and deadline-oriented environment.

·         Will perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

·        Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 4-5 years related Federal or DoD (preferred) proposal development experience or 8-10 years Federal or DoD (preferred) proposal development experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired: Bachelor's Degree in English

·         Strong technical writing experience (aerospace industry a plus).

·         Familiarity with federal research programs a plus.

·         Experience using computers and demonstrated expertise with word processing software, PDF files, and web-based applications.

·         Able to work regular business hours and OT (as necessary) evenings/weekends.

·         A self-starter that has good listening skills and the ability to understand and/or execute oral and written instructions with minimal supervision.

·         Efficient and able to multi-task and prioritize effectively. Must be able to complete work with minimum guidance and supervision.
